About RPGs

Role-Playing Games see participants take on the role of characters within a relatively free-form world in which their actions affect their environment dynamically and a story plays out with those characters in the central role. Role-Playing Games are largely conducted in the imagination rather than having a physical representation meaning the limitations are only those imposed by rulesets and imaginations themselves.

RBB RPGs typically have one person as the Games Master who designs the campaign and marshalls the players through the story the campaign offers. Various tools help including the extensive pre-made library of modules and scenarios already in existence. Specific tools often include the Roll20 platform and a VOIP such as Discord for comms as well as WhatsApp for coordination.

Participation in an RBB RPG is open to any members of the group with limits based on the particular game. Roll20 has a maximum of 15 players for instance. RPGs can involve a commitment of a small amount of time over an extended period so the ability to keep engaged as a long-form story takes place really does help.

RBB has officially had three RPG campaigns. The first was Zombie, a survival RPG played exclusively over WhatsApp messages as an experimental game. The second was the focused Descent Into Darkness campaign in the Cthulhu universe. The third is the larger Undermountain campaign in the classic Dungeons & Dragons setting of the Forgotten Realms.
