About Werewolf

Werewolf is a murder mystery game in which participants try to work out who amongst them is the villain. Each game day, participants discuss amongst each other in the WhatsApp group and then announce their nominations for who they think should be eliminated. The person with the most votes is eliminated at the end of the game day. Hopefully it will be a villainous character.

Each game night, some players can take actions. Werewolves can hunt as a pack to kill off one player during the night. Other roles can also come into play during the night. No discussion takes place at that time though as all the residents are safely tucked up in bed. When game day dawns and the results of the previous night's actions are known, debate and voting begins again in earnest.

Victory conditions depend on the role. For a resident, victory is all villains being eliminated. A major victory occurs for those residents who have survived through to the end. For Werewolves or other villain types, victory is no more players of their type being still alive. A major victory goes to those villains who survive through to the end.

A perfect game is for those villains who do not receive a single vote or for other characters who vote only for villains during a game.

The key to the game is to work out who is on the other side. This only happens in-game so do not give away what is happening outside. Once a player is eliminated they do not participate anymore. Players with night roles only can discuss those actions at night.

At heart, it is a simple game. The goal is easy - who is telling the truth? The challenge is that there are many people all with different approaches and it is not always obvious. It is perfectly acceptable to be an interesting character and roleplay something. It is also perfectly acceptable to just be yourself and hunt for wolves.

The setting is the retirement enclave of End Zone. This is a place for retired Blood Bowlers to spend their days reminiscing and reflecting on their glories in this most brutal of sports. The setting is there for background and for dressing. It does not play any real role. Nor does the NPC character who may occasionally appear to help move segments forwards.

If anything is confusing or complicated, asking the moderator is the easiest way to find things out. For many people who try this for the first time, or for the first time on a WhatsApp group it can take a moment to ease into but for those who stick around it can be a lot of fun.
